Position Overview:

The Peninsula Grill at Planters Inn is seeking an experienced and passionate Sommelier to join our distinguished team. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits, a dedication to providing an exceptional guest experience, and the ability to curate and maintain a dynamic wine list that complements our cuisine. As Sommelier, you will be instrumental in enhancing the dining experience by recommending wine pairings, conducting wine tastings, and providing education to both guests and team members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a wine list that aligns with the Peninsula Grill’s culinary offerings and exceeds guest expectations. Collaborate with chefs to create and execute food and wine pairings.
• Engage with guests to assess their preferences and provide wine recommendations that enhance their dining experience. Deliver exceptional service by sharing wine knowledge and creating memorable dining experiences.
• Educate front-of-house staff on the wine list, including providing knowledge on vintages, winemaking methods, and regions, to empower them to make recommendations confidently.
• Oversee wine inventory, including ordering, stock management, and organizing the wine cellar. Track costs and manage budgets to achieve profitability goals.
• Lead or support wine-centric events, such as tastings, dinners, or pairings, to showcase the restaurant’s wine offerings and attract clientele.
• Stay informed on current industry trends, wine regions, and emerging wineries to ensure the wine list remains competitive and diverse.

Qualifications:

• Certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers, Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), or equivalent is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sommelier or similar role in an upscale dining environment.
• Extensive knowledge of Old World and New World wines, spirits, and food pairings.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
