JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Accounting

DIRECT REPORT: Assistant Director of Finance

FUNCTION:

Responsible for performing general accounting functions as directed and ensuring hotel accounting quality standards are achieved and maintained.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with monthly hotel end of month and end of year reporting as needed.
  • Assist with account reconciliations for financial statement preparation.
  • Work with Front Desk and Night Auditors to assist with training, audit processing procedures or to resolve problems.
  • Help with reviewing nightly audit reports for accuracy and completion.
  • Work with Casino Accountants to audit hotel transactions for billing.
  • Identify system posting errors and communicate with department managers for correction.
  • Prepare daily deposits.
  • Research and respond to credit card disputes in a timely manner.
  • Cross-train on AP and General Cashier position and back-up as needed.
  • Work with IT directly on issues as needed and with other departments to correct system problems.
  • Completing other projects and/or duties as directed by Director or Assistant
  • Director of Finance.
  • Able to create worksheets and models in MS Excel as directed by Director or Assistant Director of Finance.
  • Able to meet deadlines.
  • Practices the WinStar World Hotel Culture and ensures all cultural expectations are implemented and regularly practiced.
  • Supports hotel’s training needs and efforts.
  • Responsible for preforming “other duties” as assigned by management.

SKILLS & TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • A four-year college education in Accounting, Finance, Business or Hotel Management is highly desirable.
  • Prior Hotel accounting or night audit experience preferred.
  • Must have exceptional clerical skills for typing, filing, and the ability to use computer and internet systems.
  • Must be very proficient with MS Office: Excel, Word, & Outlook programs
  • Organizational skills for efficient office control are mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Able to perform all computer functions as they pertain to this job.
  • Possess a good communication skill.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Able to work some overtime.
  • Must be able to recognize potential safety hazards and security problems in the hotel and act upon each immediately.

  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodation.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination to perform all job duties including lifting, moving loads up to 25 pounds, be able to sit for long periods of time, etc.

  • Respond to visual and aural cues.
  • Possibly be exposed to secondhand smoke.

GROOMING/UNIFORMS

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. Specific uniform guidelines and/or required articles of clothing will be explained to you as a part of the orientation process.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when performing work duties that may have the potential of risk to your health or safety. The hotel will provide the required PPE. Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of any assigned PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
