Purpose The Senior Manager of Learning & Development (L&D) Optimization is responsible for executing and optimizing the organization’s L&D and talent management strategy for North America by assessing the company’s learning needs, designing and implementing relevant programs, and evaluating their effectiveness; leads a team of Regional Learning & Development Business Partners who support and promote learning and talent initiatives within their respective regions.

Essential Functions

  • Leads, coaches, and develops a high-performing team of L&D professionals and certified trainers; fosters a culture of continuous learning, skill development and stakeholder relationship building
  • Develops critical business relationships with key stakeholders in Operations, People & Culture, and other departments to act as an advisor and understand the learning and skill development needs
  • Prioritizes efforts, creates, assesses, and evaluates programs and learning resources to drive change adoption; ensures that learning objectives are driving key business results
  • Participates in the development of the North America L&D and Talent Management strategy and the design and development of resources for program implementation and adoption
  • Guides L&D Business Partners in using effective learning, instructional design, and human performance improvement methods to address and solve performance challenges within their region; ensures application of best practices across the business
  • Oversees the development and delivery of training and development programs, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and effective
  • Collaborates with the L&D Business Partners to evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs through data analysis and feedback, driving continuous improvement
  • Fosters innovation in learning methodologies, leveraging technology and best practices to create cutting-edge training experiences
  • Manages the L&D budget, optimizing resources to maximize impact and ROI

Reporting Relationship The Senior Manager, Learning & Development Optimization reports to the Director of L&D and Talent Management

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment

  • Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must total at least 6 years:

    • In a leadership role: Requires 3 years of experience directly influencing and/or supervising a team of L&D or Operations professionals engaged in executing talent programs
    • In a technical role: Requires 6-8 years of L&D and Operations experience engaged in developing and delivering high impact learning programs
    • A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 3 of the 6-year requirement
    • An MBA or a master’s level degree in a program related to the functional area can count for an additional 2 years of 6-year requirement
    • In the industry: 3-5 years Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience
  • Specialized Training:

    • Training that leads to an in-depth understanding of L&D and instructional design areas, particularly focused on learner experience and change adoption through habit formation
    • Training and experience using learning authoring tools (Camtasia, Articulate Storyline and Rise, Elucidate, Canva, Vyond, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Requires proficiency in analyzing learning and statistical data and processes to evaluate and assess achievement toward L&D and Talent goals.
  • Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits

    • Strong skills in assessing, designing, and developing learning resources and pathways
    • Ability to use data to assess the effectiveness of learning initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for improvements
    • Business acumen and the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of L&D and talent management planning required to advance the organizations goals
    • Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population, and individual circumstances to create efficiencies, remove barriers and identify business solutions that will enhance manager effectiveness and contribute to better business outcomes
    • Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading and influencing teams to achieve common goals
  • Location/Travel:

    • This position may be based at the F&B Center of Excellence in Bethesda, MD or be remote and located near a major metropolitan airport within the North America region
    • Requires at least 30% of the time for meetings and to visit branch locations
