Reporting to the Director, Safety & Loss Control, the Manager, Risk works across businesses and departments to educate, influence, and support risk management activities. The Manager, Risk and their team support the implementation of all risk management programs by providing hands-on research and analytical support and communicate risk policies and processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for the direct oversight and management of the Workers’ Compensation, General Liability and Property Damage claims programs for non-litigated claims. Monitors and directs the claims process with TPA, insurance carriers, and outside counsel. Monitors case closing actions, coordinates negotiations for settlement of claims, and makes recommendations regarding the adjusting and settlement of claims. 2. Provides specialized expertise in all areas of risk management with an emphasis on non-litigated claims and workers’ compensation functions, and produces data analytics on current claims, potential risks, anticipated future threats and develops recommendations to mitigate them. Leads the development of the risk management strategy and establishes the creation of programs to identify, measure, monitor, and control risks by providing timely and accurate information.3. Evaluates the effectiveness of risk management programs or initiatives, recommends necessary updates, and implements changes to ensure that continuous improvement in organizational performance is realized. Supports the risk management team by actively collaborating across all departments to identify, manage, and mitigate areas of operational risk that might arise from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems, or external events4. Develops, implements, and delivers training programs to support the risk management functions of the organization and encourages a proactive risk management culture. Conducts internal audits of risk management programs as needed.5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, and/or related field is required.
Minimum three (3) years of progressive and relevant experience in the Risk Management area or domain is required.
Minimum three (3) years in a leadership role at a supervisory level or higher, preferably in Risk Management is required.
Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Well-developed computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, RMIS (Risk Management Information System) and PowerPoint software is required.
Experience in designing policy requirements, policy negotiations, policy review, etc.
Experience identifying and articulating complex operational risk issues.
Must understand and be able to implement best practices in the industry; previous experience with a "six sigma compliant" organization is beneficial.
Strong leadership and people management skills required with good motivational and collaboration emphasis; communicates change effectively, overcomes resistance and builds commitment.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
