Job Summary

The Housekeeping House Attendant/Houseman is responsible for general cleaning, maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the hotel public space, including the exterior grounds, lobby, guest floor hallways, stairwells, public restrooms and vending areas, assist room attendants and respond to guest requests in a timely and friendly manner to maintain high standards of quality and service.

 Responsibilities

•Vacuum and sweep guest floor hallways to ensure they are kept in a clean condition.

•Vacuum, sweep, mop, and dust lobby, elevators and vending and public areas as required.

•Conduct exterior perimeter checks of the hotel removing trash and debris from exterior grounds including entrance, parking lot and landscaping.

•Wipe down all surfaces of vending machines, ice machines, guest laundry machines and equipment in the fitness room.

•Stock closets with linens, amenities and other supplies and ensure closets are kept clean and organized.

•Remove dirty linen and trash from Room Attendants carts, public areas, and offices and transport them to respective service areas.

•Assist Room Attendants with stripping guest room linens.

•Ensure daily project assignments are completed.

•Responds to guest requests and other departments in a timely and friendly manner.

•Set up and remove rollaway beds from guest rooms.

•Follow procedures for entering and leaving guest rooms.

•Interact with guests in a professional, helpful manner and provide friendly and courteous customer service.

•Maintains cleanliness and organization of floor closets and vending areas.

•Receive and store all supplies and equipment and maintain par inventory.

•Mix and issue cleaning chemicals as directed.

•Turn mattresses according to rotation schedule. 

•Ensure elevators and stairwells are clean and free of debris. 

•Perform deep cleaning tasks including shampooing of rooms and public areas and polishing of marble floors. 

•Identify and report preventative or other maintenance issues in public areas or guest rooms.

•Practice safe work habits, read warning labels, wear protective safety equipment and follow MSDS and OSHA standards when handling, cleaning and disposing contaminated linen, BBP etc. and using cleaning chemicals. 

•Follow and ensure compliance of all company safety and security policies and procedures and use equipment and chemicals in accordance with hotel’s safety procedures.

•Report any maintenance problems, faulty equipment, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries to supervisor/manager.

•Report, turn in and log all lost and found guest property to supervisor/manager.

•Ensure security of any keys, phone/radio and turn in to housekeeping department when shift ends.

•Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag.

•Review assignment sheet and update completed assignments.  Check with the supervisor/manager for additional assignments throughout the shift.

•Perform lobby attendant, laundry attendant, and guest room attendant duties when staffing shortages occur or during peak periods.

•Any other tasks/duties requested or assigned by Management.

Skills

•Ability to communicate effectively with guests, employees and management.

•Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy.

•Ability to operate and work with a variety of cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, etc.

•Must be familiar with proper use of cleaning chemicals and be able read and understand labels on chemical bottles and work with cleaning chemicals.

•Ability to work under variable temperature conditions.

•Ability to exert physical effort to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds constantly, up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

•Ability to reach overhead and below knees including bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, pulling, pushing, reaching and climbing.

•Ability to stand and walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.

•Must be flexible with scheduling and willing to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

•High school diploma or its equivalent. 

•Prior hospitality and/or housekeeping experience are desirable.
