53 North Collection is looking for an exciting & enthusiastic addition to lead our food and beverage teams!

Overseeing the food and beverage operations of three independent, boutique hotels and one restaurant in Edmonton, the Complex Director of Food and Beverage will demonstrate passion for the industry, knowledge of the market, industry trends, and the ability to lead the team. This role will have responsibility for Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton, the Metterra and Varscona "Hotels on Whyte” and Ampersand27 restaurant.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Interview, hire, train, recommend performance improvements, evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication, and make recommendations regarding discipline when appropriate.
  • Plan and direct the functions of administration and planning of the Food and Beverage Departments to meet the daily needs of the operation.
  • Clearly describe, assign, and delegate responsibility and authority for the operation of the various food and beverage departments/outlets, including banquets, morning hospitality, MZ lounge and Ampersand27.
  • Monitor schedules for the operation of all food and beverage areas to achieve a profitable result.
  • Participate in the creation of menus designed to attract a predetermined customer market.
  • Implement effective control of food, beverage, and labor costs among all reporting areas to Crescent standards.
  • Abide by all Federal, Provincial, Civic legislation and requirements regarding licensing and services.
  • Assist Ampersand27, Lounge and Banquet Managers in establishing and achieving predetermined profit objectives and desired standards of quality food, service, cleanliness, merchandising and promotion.
  • Regularly review and evaluate the degree of guest satisfaction of the banquet, lounge, morning hospitality and restaurant services, to recommend new operating and marketing policies.
  • Develop the tools necessary and incidental to modern management principles, e.g. budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, food production control etc.
  • Continuously evaluate the culture and performance of food and beverage associates to encourage improvement individually and departmentally.
  • Plan and administer a training and development program within the department which will provide well trained associates at all levels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years' experience in senior leadership hotel food and beverage.
  • Stand alone restaurant and lounge experience is an asset.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Can communicate well with guests.
  • Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments interact.
  • Considerable skill in complex mathematical calculations without error.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to move throughout all food and beverage areas and hospitality suites and continuously perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
  • Ability to observe and distinguish product quality by smell, taste, and appearance.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Security clearance required upon offer of employment.
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
    • Highly organized, results oriented and ability to work in a multi-functional team environment.
    • Must be completely familiar with the role during hotel emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, the use of Incident Reports and Logbooks.
    • Provincial legislation requires employees to work safely and cooperate with their employer by following the health and safety rules for the job.
