Job Description

We are looking for a highly productive Accountant with 4 years of experience in a multi-entity Real Estate development environment. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day processing of accounts receivables and payables, and account analysis. The Staff Accountant will be involved in completing the monthly financial close process, general ledger reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and draw requests.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for daily transaction processing and recording including employee expense reports, vendor invoices, and cash receivables, ensuring accurate coding and approvals, for multiple entities.
  • Assist in monthly draw process, including maintaining and analysis of job costs and budgets
  • Assist in multiple entities’ preparation of month-end activities including bank and balance sheet reconciliations, recurring and non-recurring journal entries, and account analysis
  • Responsible for maintaining, reconciling, and analyzing the general ledger account activity, including supporting documentation, in accordance with United States generally accepted accounting principles and company accounting policies
  • Provide financial information ensuring financial records are maintained in accordance with United States generally accepted accounting principles and company accounting policies in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist in year-end closing processes, including 1099 reporting, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Prepare schedules for tax returns and tax audits.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist in implementing changes to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial operations
  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and provide support as needed
  • Communicate effectively with developers and management on a variety of job-related topics to ensure smooth operations
  • Provide exceptional service across the organization by answering queries from employees, vendors, and other external parties accurately, timely and professionally
  • Conduct analysis and reports as required by management
  • Complete ad hoc requests

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred with a minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience
  • Or minimum of 10 years’ experience as a full charge bookkeeper
  • Knowledge of general ledger systems, financial chart of accounts, fixed assets, project costs, and intercompany transactions
  • Sales tax, Tennessee business tax (gross receipts tax), and personal property tax experience, preferred
  • Construction experience and/or real estate background, preferred
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, comprehension, listening, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, thrive and adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work with various, dynamic personalities
  • Peachtree (Sage), preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
