Job Description

As a Tea Sommelier at Hotel Petersburg, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our guests' dining experience by offering expert knowledge and exceptional service related to tea. You will curate and manage an extensive tea selection, educate guests and staff, and create memorable tea experiences that align with our high standards of luxury and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tea Selection and Curation: Develop and maintain a diverse and high-quality tea menu, including rare and specialty teas. Source and establish relationships with tea suppliers.
  • Guest Experience: Provide personalized tea recommendations and pairings for guests based on their preferences and dining experiences. Conduct tea tastings and educational sessions for guests.
  • Staff Training: Train restaurant and service staff on tea preparation, presentation, and service standards to ensure a consistent and high-quality tea experience.
  • Tea Preparation: Oversee the correct preparation and presentation of teas in accordance with the established standards. Ensure the tea service area is well-maintained and organized.
  • Quality Control: Monitor and maintain the quality and freshness of tea products. Address any issues related to tea service and make improvements as needed.
  • Events and Promotions: Plan and execute tea-related events, promotions, and collaborations to enhance the visibility and appeal of our tea offerings.
  • Guest Feedback: Gather and analyze guest feedback regarding tea service and make recommendations for improvements based on guest preferences and industry trends

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Tea Sommelier or in a similar role within a luxury hospitality environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of various tea types, their origins, and brewing methods.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests effectively.
  • Experience in staff training and development.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Certification or formal training in tea sommelier programs is a plus.

HOTEL PETERSBURG

Retro Hospitality has partnered with a group of visionary developers to open the the historic Hotel Petersburg located in downtown Petersburg, Virginia. Closed since 1969 when a fire destroyed the fourth and fifth floors, the development team is working on a top to bottom renovation to bring the property back to life. This upscale boutique hotel will include 64 rooms, street-level dining, a bar, banquet facilities, and an outdoor courtyard. Following the renovation the hotel will highlight the ground floor’s extensive marble work, decorative plaster molding, and coffered ceilings.
