THIS IS A HANDS-ON, ROLL-UP-YOUR-SLEEVES ROLE. IT IS NOT AN OFFICE POSITION. YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAY-TO-DAY MAINTENANCE OF THE HOTEL.

Job Description
The Chief Engineer oversees all administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the hotel's engineering division. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and profitable operation of the hotel.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and training all engineering staff in customer service, empowerment, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention standards.
  • Creating, approving, and posting engineering staff schedules.
  • Creating and adhering to the annual budget for the department.
  • Developing financial forecasts and actively participating in monthly profit/loss review meetings.
  • Implementing plans to maintain the property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in good repair.
  • Ensuring the hotel complies with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Creating and implementing a preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Ensuring that all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified as per standards.
  • Promptly handling room maintenance requests in a courteous manner.
  • Investigating all alarms immediately to determine the location and cause; assessing emergency status and reporting findings to the Front Desk; taking necessary immediate action.
  • Assisting with special projects and renovations as needed.
  • Actively participating in energy conservation programs.
  • Reviewing guest and meeting planner comment cards to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Administering all vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.
  • Supporting and participating in all company programs.
  • Leading and participating in the Safety Committee.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of progressive facilities management experience in a hotel or related field, OR a 4-year college degree with at least 1 year of related management experience, OR a 2-year college degree with 1 or more years of related management experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Stationary Engineer’s license, if required by local code.
  • Proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) with employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approachable and professional demeanor in all interactions with guests and employees.
  • Consistent attendance at required meetings and training sessions.
  • Adherence to company standards regarding personal appearance and grooming.
  • Compliance with safety standards and regulations to ensure efficient hotel operations.
  • Ability to identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions to maximize productivity.
  • Proficiency in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and resolving issues as needed.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex information and meet objectives.

Physical requirements:

  • Long hours may sometimes be required.
  • Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
