Compensation: Commensurate with Experience, Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

Position Summary

Supervise the daily accounting operations ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Supervise Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, recommend and conduct performance reviews, discipline, resolve problems, provide open communications as appropriate. Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure financial information is available and accurate. Assume the responsibilities of the Director of Finance in his absence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Play an ongoing role in the creation, execution and refinement of profitable financial strategies designed to maximize opportunities for La Fonda, while also ensuring excellence in the Company's day-to-day financial accounting, reporting, analytical and planning functions, as well as the integration of best practices.
  • Complete the Daily Report of all revenues.
  • Along with the Director of Finance, create an accountable, communicative, team-oriented environment, striving to achieve and exceed expectations.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other department managers across various functional lines to build and maintain productive relationships.
  • Complete the month end financial statement closing procedures, including overseeing timely daily revenue postings, updating A/R entries, and producing timely and accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and resolve differences as necessary.
  • Along with the Controller, ensure that tax returns are filed accurately and timely.
  • Ensure cash (including credit card deposits) is being reconciled on a daily basis.
  • Lead the assessment and implementation of financial controls necessary to safeguard the property's assets.
  • Assist Controller in making specific recommendations that will result in revenue enhancement, cost reductions and/or profit improvement to the Hotel overall. Conduct related analyses as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Controller, General Manager and operations team to prepare the property operating budgets, capital budgets, forecasts and business plans.
  • Assist the Controller with cash flow forecasting by providing accurate, daily information regarding cash.
  • Interface actively with all departments to identify areas for revenue enhancement, cost savings, process improvement, improved communication flow and/or necessity for documentation of policies/procedures
  • Ensure full knowledge of all job responsibilities of the audit staff enabling proper training and support in the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, income audit, payroll, and general cashier.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Establish relations with banks and other financial institutions as needed.
  • Be willing and knowledgeable enough to perform tasks in all areas.
  • Handle guest, client, and department billing inquiries in a timely manner, with courtesy and accuracy

Job Specifications:

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

This job involves accurate counting and accounting skills

Person must be able to communicate clearly in English, and use all computer programs effectively – Outlook, Excel, Maestro, Opera, M3, Sage, Profit Sword and Word, etc.

Must be able to read, write, speak, have good vision, be accurate and detailed.

Education Required:

4 years of college education (accounting preferred) or equivalent of education/experience. Minimum 2 years of management experience.
