Practice Hospitality is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Food and Beverage to join the team at the Mining Exchange Hotel & Spa.

Mining Exchange Hotel & Spa was built in 1902 as a stock exchange for local mining companies, The Mining Exchange Hotel & Spa offers a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. Our elegant, yet casual public spaces, and guestrooms are all newly renovated.

Job Role

At Practice Hospitality, the Assistant Director of Food & Beverage works in a fast paced, exciting environment to deliver on our commitment to high quality hospitality. The Assistant Director of Food & Beverage directs and oversees all aspects of the organization's food and beverage planning and service, with duties to include special event planning, menu planning and costs, preparation and presentation of food and drinks, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the F&B Director on planning and directing the functions of administration and planning of the Food and Beverage Department to meet the daily needs of the operation
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, orientating & training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures
  • Plan and administer a training and development program within the department, which will provide well-trained employees at all levels and permit advancement for those persons qualified and interested in career development
  • Clearly describe, assign and delegate responsibility and authority for the operation of the various food and beverage sub departments
  • Achieves restaurant operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change
  • Meets food and beverage financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Controls food and beverage costs by reviewing portion control and quantities of preparation, minimizing waste and ensuring high quality of preparation; Implement effective control of food, beverage and labor costs among all sub departments
  • Assist all managers in establishing and achieving predetermined profit objectives and desire standards of quality food, service, cleanliness, merchandising and promotion
  • Regularly review and evaluate the degree of customer acceptance of the individual restaurants and banquet service and recommend new operating and marketing policies whenever declining or constant sales imply dissatisfaction by the customers, a material change in the make-up or the customer market, or a change in the competitive environment
  • Publicizes the restaurant by designing and placing advertisements; inviting food editors to review the restaurant; contacting local, regional, and national magazines with feature ideas; encouraging local businesses to hold social events at the restaurant
  • Maintains safe, secure, and health environment by establishing, following and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations; securing revenues; developing and implementing disaster plans; maintaining security and sprinkler systems; maintaining parking lot and walkways
  • Ensures all operations conform to regulations of the alcoholic beverages commission

Basic Qualifications & Skills

  •  High School degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience in food & beverage, organizing a team for optimal customer service
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams to achieve and exceed goals
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette
  • Prior experience developing and implementing plans to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with appropriate regulations (i.e. – Ergonomics, Emergency Response, Injury and Illness Prevention, and Hazard Communication Plans)
  • Successful completion of criminal background
  • Professional communication skills both verbal and written

Compensation: $65k-to$75k salary range -annually paid on a biweekly basis
