Description

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the entire engineering operations of the hotel's systems, plant and equipment. The management of the department's team members and ensuring budget is utilised efficiently and effectively ensures the hotel is able to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Key responsibilities also include ensuring Australian building compliance requirements are met, acting as Chief Fire Warden, championing hotel environmental and sustainability initiatives, ensuring Hilton Brand Standards are adhered to, and maintaining the hotel's assets.

What will I be doing?

As Chief Engineer, you will oversee the engineering operations for both exterior and interior facilities, including electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, painting, plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, structural elements, landscaping, and car parks. Your role is essential in maintaining the hotel's facilities, ensuring a top-quality experience for our guests, and safeguarding the well-being of all stakeholders. 

  • ​Lead the Engineering Team in the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, including service standards, equipment schedules, safety protocols and work schedules
  • ​Implementing and maintaining our preventative maintenance program to ensure all equipment and facilities are in good working order. This includes guest rooms, public areas, BOH spaces and the overall façade of the building
  • ​Monitor and coordinate the services performed by outside contractors in accordance with all contracts and service agreements
  • Collaborating with departments like Housekeeping and Front Office to ensure seamless operations, while ensuring timely responses to service requests from guests, team members, and management. This includes addressing the repair and replacement of all furniture, fixtures, and equipment
  • ​Plan, implement and administer an effective preventive maintenance program in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, government legislation and good engineering practices
  • ​Ensuring that systems like HVAC and fire safety are functioning properly, and addressing repairs or upgrades as needed.
  • ​Plan, implement and administer and energy management program by analysing and modifying operation and plant and equipment to conserve energy & introduce sustainable systems and equipment
  • Conduct ongoing inspections of building and facilities to ensure compliance with Workplace Health & Safety, Fire or any other pertinent legislation and take necessary action to maintain compliance
  • Managing the maintenance budget, including tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving measures
  • Coordinate renovation bidding, define the cost and scope of the project, and oversee the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed cost effectively
  • Being prepared to respond to emergencies, such as equipment failures or natural disasters
  • The Chief Engineer is also responsible for the development of the Engineering Team and staying abreast of compliance regulations and procedures in the field of Engineering, as required for hotel standards

Requirements

What are we looking for?

A Chief Engineer serving Hilton brands in this unique property you will be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and capabilities:

  • ​Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical trade qualified A
  • Advanced knowledge of building management/engineering
  • Motivated, self-driven, with a passion for delivering consistency 
  • Flexibility with rostering and available 24/7 in case of an emergency
  • Superior communicator and negotiating skills who is able to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders for win-win outcomes 
  • ​Possess knowledge of the requirements of government regulations and technical rules
  • Previous facilities management experience preferably within Hotels and Hospitality
  • A hands-on and approachable leader with previous experience managing and training a team
  • Proficient with computers and relevant computer programs
  • Exposure to budgeting and basic accounting principles
  • Experience in high rise commercial facilities desirable
