Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, Facilities, the Maintenance Mechanic performs building maintenance, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1.  Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. 
2.  Installs lighting, electrical outlets, and circuit breakers. 
3.  Repairs plumbing equipment, kitchen equipment, and assists other trades when needed. 
4.  Repairs office equipment and building furniture. 
5. Replaces faulty circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, or wires. 
6.  Replaces ceiling tile. 

7.  Operates hand-held power equipment and tools. 

8.  Notifies supervisor when more materials are needed or when equipment needs repair or replacement. 

9. Participates in standby program; assists in emergency and special assignments with other tribal departments and with outside agencies and companies. 
10. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. 

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience/training required.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines when using required equipment, tools, and techniques while performing job duties. 

  • Must be reliable, courteous, loyal, and trustworthy. 

  • Ability to use all necessary tools and equipment required to complete all job duties. 

  • Ability to operate forklifts, power lifts, and various equipment. 

  • Knowledge of power and handheld tools. 

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics. 

  • Knowledge of emergency shut-off procedures for gas, water, electrical, etc.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
  • Must obtain forklift and man-lift certificates (issued by department).
