Practice Hospitality is seeking a hospitable and friendly room attendant to join the team at Americana Motor Hotel, Flagstaff’s most out-of-this-world roadside retreat.

About The Hotel

Built in 1962 and reopening in late spring, this is yesterday’s hotel of tomorrow, reimagined for today. Parked on historic Route 66 just east of downtown Flagstaff, the Americana Motor Hotel has been fully renovated and in reinventing the roadside retreat as a launchpad for adventure in Northern Arizona. Inspired by the region’s natural wonders and far out history, it will give guests plenty see and do before they head out there. Featuring plush beds, brand new walk in showers, retro-futuristic design, 4K television and premium Wi-Fi, the 88 guestrooms rooms are a little slice of heaven here on earth. And, the amenities are out of this world with a year-round heated pool, cozy fire pits, yard games and a tempting menu of tasty treats and cold canned beverages.

Job Role: 

To serve beverages and/or food to the guests in a friendly, courteous, and timely and manner, resulting in guest satisfaction. Also, to prepare beverages for other servers to supply to guests, and act as cashier for the lounge.

Responsibilities:     (This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed, as necessary.)

  • Maintains proper and adequate set-up of the bar daily. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments and produce based on projections from the daily functions sheet.
  • Responsible for maintaining stock, cutting, and storing of all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices, and other perishables daily to ensure product quality.
  • Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner, promotes and documents orders for drinks.
  • Mixes, garnishes, and presents drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control. 
  • Check guests for proper identification.
  • Detect and act upon guest inebriation as trained.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of liquor laws.
  • Inputs orders into a register at the point of sale and creates a check for each guest and patron, including those served by other beverage servers, to maintain accountability of all beverages served.
  • Receives cash from guests, makes any change needed, verifies validity of charges, records charges, and ensures vouchers are properly executed, in order to balance all moneys.
  • Locks up and stores all beverage, food and other equipment items, deposits cash drops and secures bank.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

  • Attend mandatory meetings.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks to adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor such as assisting security with disorderly guests.
  • Must adhere to all State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests to ensure all laws are being followed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bartending work experience required.
  • Previous hotel experience preferred.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages.
  • Basic mathematical skills necessary to operate a cash register, make change, total guest checks, count total bank, prepare cash drops, total all other charges, and understand portion sizes.
  • Basic English language writing skills necessary for completion of requisitions, balance sheets and vouchers.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity in hands to use a knife to make garnish, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, mix drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock.
  • Ability to read, speak and understand the English language to communicate with guests and take orders.
  • Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and point of sale procedures to pre-check an order and close out a check.
  • Ability to work stand and work in confined spaces for long periods of time.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear, reach, bend over, stoop, use hands, use fingers, write, see, feel objects, handle paper, wires, pens, boxes, and occasionally kneel.  Occasional lifting or moving may be required of objects of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and /or 50 pounds or force frequently and /up to 25 pounds of force constantly to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

The hospitality business functions seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.  In addition, this is a hospitality business, and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times. 

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
