The opportunity

Delaware North’s Sportservice is hiring seasonal, part time Line  Cooks to join our team at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. As a line cook, you will play a crucial role and preparing and delivering high quality dishes to our valued guests in a high volume, fast paced environment.

This is a part time, event based position. Event season runs from September through June. Night and weekend availability is required.

What will you do?

  • Prepares food to specifications before and during unit operations.
  • Properly measures and portions all food items. Complies with all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Cooks all food to proper specifications promptly.
  • Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food, such as knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, and ovens.
  • Ensures proper food temperatures are maintained and food is stored correctly.
  • Packages all products to proper specifications.
  • Performs opening, closing, and side work duties according to proper guidelines.
  • Keeps workstations, coolers, and equipment clean, organized, sanitized, and sufficiently stocked.
  • Follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations.
  • They may be required to perform other duties as needed to support the team’s and organization’s overall goals and objectives.

More about you

  • At least two years of experience as a Line Cook, preferably in a high-volume setting.
  • Ability to read and understand recipes and food abbreviations.
  • Ability to move rapidly and coordinate multiple orders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attentive and detail-oriented.
  • Capable of following procedures and taking directions.
  • Basic math skills; ability to understand, calculate, and follow recipe measurements and proportions.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule. Night and weekend availability is required.

Physical requirements

  • Manual dexterity is sufficient to chop, mix, blend, whip, etc. a variety of foods and liquids.
  • Ability to lift and carry large pans, weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to handle or operate dangerous kitchen equipment.
  • Standing and walking for the entire length of the shift.
  • Frequently required to reach up to 6-7 feet, twist at the waist, bending, and squatting
  • Pushing and pulling occasionally, to move equipment, mops, and brooms.
  • Kitchen environment noise levels may be moderate to high.
  • Works frequently in a hot and damp environment.

Amica Mutual Pavilion

Located in the heart of Providence, The Amica Mutual Pavilion (AMP PVD) is New England’s premier multi-use entertainment arena. Home to the AHL Providence Bruins and the Big East Providence College Men’s Basketball team, the AMP PVD hosts a wide variety of sporting events, concerts, family shows, trade shows and more. The arena floor can be set up to accommodate center stage shows, table seating, ice, dirt, basketball, and event trade show booths.

The Amica Mutual Pavilion was built in 1971 and was then known as the Providence Civic Center. Entertainers such as, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Cher and Aerosmith have performed to sell-out crowds at the arena. In September of 2008, following a multi-million dollar renovation, the Amica Mutual Pavilion re-opened boosting new seats, a state of the art video scoreboard, facility and concession upgrades, luxury suites, a redesigned concourse and expanded lobby, and a sky-bridge to the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The 14,000-seat AMP PVD offers 31,000 square feet of arena space with a ceiling height of 86 feet, a 25,000-square-foot concourse, a 9,000-square-foot lobby, 20 luxury suites, and five additional meeting/hospitality rooms. There are 5,500 hotel rooms in the Greater Providence area—1,800 located within walking distance of the Center.

The AMP PVD is part of the Rhode Island Convention & Entertainment Complex, which also includes the Rhode Island Convention Center (RICC) and Veterans Memorial Auditorium (The VETS).
