Under the direction of the Card Control Supervisor, the primary duties of the Card Controller are the receiving, storage, inventory, preparation, distribution, removal, inspection and destruction of casino playing cards. They are responsible for card security, providing accurate and efficient inventory control of all Table Games banking cards. The importance of this job cannot be overstressed. The failure to provide proper safeguards against impropriety towards this gaming device constitutes the highest degree of vulnerability to asset/revenue loss within the table games department. The personnel directly responsible for preserving the integrity of playing cards and protecting this gaming device from internal and external improprieties are Card Control personnel.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ensures control/protection of company assets.                                                                          

2. Receives and documents new banking card shipments.  Conducts inventory daily to ensure an accurate inventory count of all banking cards in storage and throughout the casino.  Prepares and distributes new banking cards to the table game areas.

3. Removes cancelled banking cards from the podium drawers within each pit daily.  Verifies and destroys all used banking cards brought into the Card Control room.

4. Maintains continuous and accurate documentation of all Card Control activity in each Card Control log.

5. Ensures that all casino playing cards are securely transported to and from the Card Control room.  Ensures that all casino playing cards are stored either in the Card Control storage room, or in a locked podium drawer within each pit.

6. Checks out keys to access podiums and cart.

7. Notifies management of any problems or concerns.  Notifies surveillance when banking cards are received, distributed and destroyed, as well as any other activity and/or discrepancies.

8. Remains in compliance with all Card Control policies and procedures, and adheres strictly to all Gaming regulations.

9.  Performs prompt, friendly customer service to both internal and external customers.

10. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of written or oral instructions. Read, analyze and interpret all manuals, technical procedures, and all regulations having to do with the operations of the card control room.
  • Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations in a calm manner.
  • Reliable, punctual and cooperative with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
  • Ability to operate a card counting machine and a card shredding machine.
  • Problem solving, identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Oral communication, speaks clearly in positive and negative situations. Listens and gets clarification. Responds well to questions.
  • Judgement, displays willingness to make timely decisions. Supports and explains reasoning for decisions.
  • Organized, versatile, and able to multi task, with the ability to focus on more than one thing at a time. 
  • Observant to surroundings, able to see patterns.
  • Good memorization and reasoning skills.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
