Definition:
The Mechanic is a support position for the Golf Course operational staffs and must work closely with the Agronomists to meet their needs. The Mechanic works closely with and/or independently of the Assistant Mechanic in the repair and maintenance of various gasoline and diesel powered golf course and grounds maintenance equipment. The Mechanic also helps to maintain a clean service area, maintenance building, preventive maintenance program and places safety procedures as a top priority.
General Duties:
- Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of the equipment with the Agronomy Equipment Manager.
- Inspect diagnose, adjust and repair mechanical defects/failures in various pieces golf course maintenance equipment on a regular basis.
- Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.
- Set up and modify equipment as needed.
- Repair and adjust engines and cutting mechanisms on heavy or light mowing equipment.
- Keep maintenance equipment serviced and inspected and perform related tasks as required.
- Assist in maintaining an efficient inventory of high use parts, supplies, tires, hoses, filters, batteries, belts, fuels and lubricants required to maintain and operate the equipment.
- Keep accurate and complete records of work orders, repairs and preventive maintenance performed, including labor hours, parts and supplies used.
Employment Standards:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license or CDL, meet the requirements of driver insurability as established by the Employer’s insurance carrier and must immediately report any change in status of the license to the Employer.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and/or background check per current employment policy.
- Working knowledge of the general operation of gasoline, diesel and electric powered equipment, of the proper methods of servicing golf course equipment, and the repair and adjustment of mowing equipment.
- Mechanical ability to use common mechanical tools.
- Ability to weld and use a gas torch.
- Ability to sharpen cutting mechanisms to factory specifications.
- Ability to trouble shoot and repair hydraulic and electrical system on the mowing equipment.
- High degree of good common sense and basic math skills.
- Basic oral and written communication skills and able to follow instructions, in English is required; bilingual is valued.
- Adhering to proper recycling and/or disposal of various oil, compounds and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.).
- Assist in an effective, daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Must have present a clean and pleasant overall appearance in front of members and guests
- High School diploma or equivalent General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the requirements of driver insurability as established by the insurance carrier is preferred and/or possibly a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Security/Confidentiality/Training/Tools:
- Responsible for the security of all equipment, tools, supplies, materials and facilities entrusted or assigned by the Resort or supervisor.
- Responsible for attending all company required training sessions; including but not limited to safety, human resources, equipment, etc.
- Encourage OSHA Hazard Communication Standard training and certification.
- Required to provide your own basic set of tools…specialty tools will be provided by the Resort.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Have physical strength, stamina and agility at levels necessary to perform the required duties and common golf course operations tasks.
- Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and well organized parts inventory room.
- Majority of the work is performed in non-climate controlled spaces or outdoors in various weather conditions common to Texas.
- Exposure to maintenance equipment; including but not limited to moving parts, heights, noise, airborne debris, vibration and fumes.
- Maintain a clean, safe and environmentally responsible work environment.
