Position Summary

Under general direction of Desert Diamond Casino- Phoenix Cage Manager, supervises the daily activities of Cage services, including personnel assignments, training and management, quality assurance and daily deposits.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees cage operations on assigned shift.
  • Manages shift schedule to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Reviews cashiers schedules and completes supervisor schedules; authorizes PTO and sick leave requests.
  • Monitors various duties of supervisor, and cashiers, such as rolling shift for cage in the Blackjack system, deposit, Kiosk and ATM status and balances, filling in as safety committee member, overtime and employee paperwork discrepancies.
  • Updates event calendar for cage department notification.
  • Updates key control authorization for cage team members.
  • Coach, teach and mentor supervisors, and/or cashiers to prepare them for growth and future advancement.
  • Addresses budgetary challenges and find resolutions to assist in maintaining the department’s budget.
  • Increase communication by disseminating information on changes to departmental policy an processes to cage team members and other departments affected by the changes.
  • Assist in ensuring cage team members are in compliance with all required regulations.
  • Rotate shifts to keep refreshed in Cage operations and to ensure complete understanding of cage needs and functions of all shifts.
  • Addresses team issues, including but not limited to moral, safety, training and staffing.
  • Reviews and approves weekly payroll for processing.
  • Ensures balancing of all cash banks.  Responsible for identifying and properly recording cash variances.
  • Tracks and maintains all cage shortages and submits payroll deductions for all audited shortages.
  • Conducts assessments on Cage personnel work performance to insure that appropriate measures are taken to correct deficiencies.
  • Performs spot and end of month (EOM) bank counts and reports.
  • Conducts monthly meeting with personnel to discuss operations.
  • Ensure seamless transition between shifts.
  • Oversees and monitors quality assurance for Cage.
  • Safeguards Casino assets.
  • Assists in monitoring guests needs while supervising personnel.
  • Maintains excellent guest and team member relations.
  • Complies with federal cash reporting requirements.
  • Troubleshoots coin and currency counting equipment problems.
  • Contacts a team member of the Blackjack pit to inform them of large blackjack transactions at the Cage.
  • Maintains excellent communication with team members and Managers.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Maintains a dependable work attendance record and extremely infrequent absences and/or lateness.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education And Experience

High School Diploma or GED plus four years experience in the cash handling and customer service field, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must be 18 years of age or older.   No felony, theft or stealing convictions.   Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license and to include the following:

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, And Certifications

  • Knowledge and proficient in intermediate mathematics.
  • Knowledge of computer systems.
  • Knowledge of management techniques.
  • Ability to become familiar with all cage functions and available to work all shifts.
  • Skill in supervising assigned staff.
  • Skill in cashier’s cage operations and of applicable laws on cage operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing with staff and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with team members at all levels.
  • Skill in problem solving and sound decision-making.
  • Skill in typing and 10-key operation.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
  • Ability to provide presentations to a large group setting.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the team members regularly is required to stand for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The team member frequently is required to walk.  The team member occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The team members must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is generally performed in the Casino cage area with exposure to second-hand smoke, currency dust particles, and a high noise level. Days, evenings, graveyards, holidays and/or weekend work may be required.  Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
