Summary

Operates cord or cordless switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Pushes switch keys on cordless switchboard to make connections and relay calls.
  • Plugs cord of cord type equipment into switchboard jacks to make connections and relay calls.
  • Supplies information to callers and records messages.
  • Keeps record of calls placed.
  • Performs clerical duties as necessary.
  • Operates system of bells or buzzers to call individuals in establishment to phone.
  • Makes announcements or pages on overhead public address system.
  • Maintains various personnel related forms for use by employees.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Age Requirement

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, reports and documents. Ability to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
