The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to customers, ensuring a high level of service and satisfaction. This role involves managing the bar area, maintaining cleanliness, and adhering to all health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Drink Preparation and Service

  • Mix and serve drinks according to recipes and customer specifications.
  • Prepare garnishes and other drink-related items.
  • Ensure that drinks are served promptly and with high quality.

2. Customer Service

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Take drink orders and provide recommendations based on customer preferences.
  • Address and resolve any customer complaints or concerns in a timely manner.

3. Bar Management

  • Manage the bar area, ensuring it is clean, organized, and fully stocked.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report any shortages or needs to the Bar Manager.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including bar equipment and glassware.

4. Health and Safety Compliance

  • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of alcohol and adherence to legal drinking age laws.
  • Ensure responsible alcohol service and monitor customer alcohol consumption to prevent over-serving.
  • Adhere to proper sanitation practices, including cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment.

5. Cash Handling

  • Handle cash and credit card transactions accurately.
  • Maintain a cash drawer and ensure that all transactions are recorded properly.
  • Reconcile cash and credit card receipts at the end of each shift.

6. Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with other bar staff, servers, and kitchen personnel to ensure smooth operation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to manage bar service and address any issues.

7. Administrative Duties

  • Complete necessary paperwork, including inventory logs and sales reports.
  • Assist in ordering supplies and managing bar inventory.

Qualifications:

  • Previous bartending experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of mixology, drink recipes, and cocktail preparation.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to alcohol service.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and stamina to work in a busy bar environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a bar or restaurant environment with exposure to noise, heat, and potentially hazardous equipment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

HOTEL PETERSBURG

Retro Hospitality has partnered with a group of visionary developers to open the the historic Hotel Petersburg located in downtown Petersburg, Virginia. Closed since 1969 when a fire destroyed the fourth and fifth floors, the development team is working on a $13.5 million renovation to bring the property back to life. This upscale boutique hotel will include 64 rooms, street-level dining, a bar, banquet facilities, and an outdoor courtyard. Following the renovation the hotel will highlight the ground floor’s extensive marble work, decorative plaster molding, and coffered ceilings.
