What will I be doing?

We are recruiting for a 12-month maternity leave cover, Manager of Communications to join Hilton’s regional team delivering on corporate and consumer PR activities across Australasia. Working closely with various business functions as part of a dynamic team, you will support the communication of Hilton’s impressive growth story, manage various high-profile new hotel openings and deliver creative PR activities.

This job requires a communications practitioner with proven writing skills and the ability to influence across all levels of our matrixed team from local hotels through to the senior executive. You will have demonstrated issues management and crisis communications experience.

The role reports to the Director of Communications, Australasia, working closely with APAC regional communications colleagues.

Duties/Responsibilities

This role will support the Director of Communications, Australasia to develop and execute plans for the full spectrum of communications across Hilton’s Australasia region.

a.     Take responsibility for communications activity for various new hotel openings and ongoing consumer PR across the region to drive press and influencer support, working directly with on-property marketing communications teams and provide guidance on hotel PR plans and source market PR activity.

b.     Assist with ongoing corporate communications activities, including the preparation of briefing books, coordination of industry events, profiling efforts, and support for development initiatives.

c.      Nurture and maintain strong media/influencer relationships, respond to enquiries as well as manage the regional media database.

d.     Understand the media and social media landscape across Australasia.

e.     Manage critical writing tasks quickly and creatively. This includes reviewing and editing key hotel content like press releases, writing leadership social media posts, talking points, etc.

f.      Develop toolkits for hotels to help with opening PR efforts as well as ongoing efforts.

g.     Be a source of counsel for hotels who are looking to increase consumer awareness and preference for their brands.

  • Day to day, you will also be responsible for managing Hilton’s agency network, and ensuring return on investment and delivery of results within budget.
  • Manage public relations agencies and external vendors in delivering corporate and brand activities.
  • Distribute press releases and monitoring media coverage.
  • Provide event management and support key activities as required.
  • Responsible for key success and achievement reports.

What are we looking for?

The success in this role will demonstrate itself through the following attributes and skills:

  • At least 3 years of experience in communications
  • Crucial: Superior writing skills
  • Preferred: PR agency or journalist experience
  • Track record of delivering integrated communications campaigns
  • Track record of successfully managing communications during times of crisis in a global, matrixed environment. 
  • Good media relationships and sound understanding of media landscapes
  • Experience managing internal and executive stakeholders
  • Experience of working in or across multiple markets
  • Preferably business proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English
  • Highly collaborative and an ability to work with colleagues from different parts of the business and region
