Carpenter

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: 

To ensure the property guest rooms and public areas are maintained in optimum condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:

• Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools.
• Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue
• Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, carpeting, trim, or hardware, using carpenter's hand and power tools.
• Finish surfaces of woodwork or wallboard throughout the building, using paint, stain, hand tools, and paneling.
• Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
• Fill cracks and other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel, and sanding tool.
• Perform minor concrete mixing work.
• Know and practice the safe use of hand tools and small portable power tools
• Use ladders and staging comfortably and safely
• Evaluate a situation, diagnose the problem and develop a plan to repair or correct the situation in a timely, professional and safe manor.
• Work independently and without direct supervision.
• Maintain Carpenters shop and tools in a safe and clean manner. Select and order supplies and other required materials. Maintaining adequate stock of materials and tools.
• Schedule and shifts may change. Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
• Knowledge of fire emergency procedures and duties of all assisting personnel.
• Follow all safety procedures including utilization of proper personal protective equipment and adherence to all Connect sustainability procedures.
• Follow all lock out tag out procedures.
• Perform preventive maintenance on auxiliary equipment and other tasks as assigned.
• Maintain all back of house and mechanical spaces in a clean, safe, and professional manner.
• Maintain all tools in a safe condition and report all deficiencies.
• Assist other engineers and departments as needed.
• Additional duties not mentioned above may also be requested by supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• The ability to lift/carry up to 75 lbs.
• Stay on feet for long periods of shifts.
• Stand, sit, reach, grasp, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, push/pull.
• Ability to properly operate hand and power tools

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Excellent communicative skills in the written and spoken English language.
• Ability to use computers including but not limited to emails and work order system.
• A working knowledge of the use of hand and power tools.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE /LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES / REQUIRED:

• 5 years carpentry experience
• Hotel experience preferred
