Our Hotel

The Carolina Inn offers 185 beautifully appointed guestrooms and suites in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Located on the campus of the University of North Carolina, the historic hotel has earned the AAA Four Diamond Award since 1997. The North Carolina landmark is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

AN INTEGRAL PART OF UNC CHAPEL HILL

The hotel was built in 1924 by UNC alumnus John Sprunt Hill and designed by award-winning architect Arthur C. Nash, who designed a number of other university landmarks. Hill gifted the hotel in 1935 to the university and stipulated that all profits were to be used to support the university's library.

Today, the Inn is still owned by UNC and continues to support the North Carolina Collection at the Wilson Library. It is managed by international boutique hotelier Destination Hotels & Resorts.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

The Carolina Inn is architecturally significant, blending elements of antebellum Southern plantation homes with Georgian and neoclassical features. The building's original front was modeled after George Washington's home at Mt. Vernon on the Potomac River.

A series of renovations have brought modern sophistication in guest comfort and amenities. Historical charm remains as does its rich history with UNC families and alumni, and its integral relationship with Chapel Hill.

CROSSROADS CHAPEL HILL RESTAURANT AND BAR

An integral part of the hotel is the Crossroads Chapel Hill Restaurant, located inside the Inn and offers Sunday brunch, breakfast, lunch and dinner services for the local community and hotel guests. The restaurant is renowned for its gourmet cuisine, contemporary menus and interpretations of classic Southern fare.

Crossroads Chapel Hill Bar is energized and spacious with comfortable seating, large HD flat-screen TVs, exceptional artwork of historic postcards of the Inn and UNC’s Daily Tar Heel cartoons. Offering creative cocktails and libations, local and imported beers, an extensive wine menu, and a menu of light fare, appetizers and desserts.

CENTRALLY LOCATED ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE ENTIRE REGION

A fundamental part of the university, Carolina Inn guests can walk to the medical center, stadium and basketball arena. Accommodations are a block from the shopping, galleries and entertainment in Chapel Hill's historic Franklin Street district.

The UNC Chapel Hill hotel is a 20-minute trip from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and very close to Research Triangle Park (RTP).
