Position Summary:

Brophy’s Tavern, a neighborhood bar and restaurant in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, is seeking a passionate and experienced Kitchen Manager to lead our culinary team. This role is responsible for the daily operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, team supervision, quality control, inventory management, and ensuring cleanliness and compliance with health standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency in food preparation and presentation.
  • Supervise and schedule kitchen staff; recruit, train, and develop team members.
  • Collaborate with leadership on menu planning, specials, and seasonal offerings.
  • Maintain food cost controls, portioning standards, and inventory accuracy.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and place orders to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness and organization at all times; enforce sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with health department standards and internal brand standards.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Foster a positive and respectful work environment, supporting a culture of teamwork and professionalism.
  • Assist with budget management, including labor and food cost targets.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a Kitchen Manager or Sous Chef role, preferably in a high-volume gastropub or casual fine dining environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proven experience managing food costs, labor, and kitchen operations.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
