Summary

The Casino Intern position at WarHorse Casino offers an invaluable opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in the dynamic world of casino operations. This role involves providing administrative support, data entry, assisting with purchasing, coordinating onboarding tasks, scheduling, and learning the fundamental operations and procedures on the casino floor. The intern will work closely with various departments to contribute to the overall success of the casino while developing essential skills and knowledge within the industry.

Essential Functions
  • Perform administrative assistant duties, including filing, organizing documents, and managing correspondence.
  • Accurately enter data into electronic systems and databases.
  • Assist in ordering and purchasing activities, coordinating with vendors, and tracking deliveries.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires by coordinating orientation schedules and assisting with paperwork completion.
  • Assist in scheduling meetings, appointments, and events for departmental staff.
  • Provide operational support as needed, including assisting with customer inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Learn basic operations and procedures on the casino floor by shadowing experienced staff members.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The work environment for this position is primarily indoors, within the casino setting. The intern may be required to spend time in office areas as well as on the casino floor, which may be noisy and involve exposure to tobacco smoke.

Physical Demands

This role may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours

The intern will work forty (40) hours per week, with a flexible schedule to accommodate academic commitments if applicable.

Travel

Travel is not expected for this position.

Experience

No prior experience is required.

Previous experience in a customer service or hospitality-related role is advantageous.

Education

Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably with a focus on hospitality management, business administration, or a related field.

Additional Qualifications

Must be at least 19 years old.

Ability to pass a background check and obtain any required gaming licenses or permits.

Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a team-oriented environment.

WarHorse Gaming Lincoln

WarHorse Gaming is a division of Ho-Chunk, Inc., the award-winning economic development corporation of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. WarHorse Gaming operates the WarHorse Casino in Lincoln (now open) as well as the WarHorse Casino, in Omaha. Both are in partnership with the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA). WarHorse Gaming will also operate WarHorse Casino in South Sioux City (opening TBD).

Phase one in Lincoln opened September 24th, 2022, featuring over 9,000 square feet including 425 slot machines along with simulcast and live horse racing. 

WarHorse Gaming Lincoln’s next phase of construction will begin shortly after the Omaha facility’s construction starts. The expansion will double the size of the current facility and add an additional 500 parking stalls at the casino and racetrack. The expanded facility will feature 870 slot machines, six to ten table games, and an expanded dining area for customers. The Lincoln facility’s second phase is planned to take about one year to complete. Subsequent construction phases will see the buildout of the full gaming floor, parking garage, event center, and 220 room hotel.
