Compensation: $19.90 to $24.88 per hour, Full-Time

Primary Objective of Position:

  • Answer internal calls while providing service, order taking of food and beverages items in guest rooms according to hotel specifications, courteously and efficiently.  Assist in the maintenance of the In Room Dining area and equipment.

Responsibilities and Job Duties: 

  • Promptly answer guests’ calls, announce any specials, promote menu items and answer questions regarding preparation methods.
  • Document orders, repeat items back to callers to ensure accuracy and quote expected arrival time per set standards with speed and accuracy.
  • Input order information into POS, allowing kitchen staff to begin preparation; note any special requests clearly. 
  • Accurately assist ringing up and posting honor bar charges to Guest Folios.
  • Assist service staff during peak periods by preparing service trays and generally assisting with all efforts to ensure prompt delivery.
  • Respond to guest complaints in a positive manner, negotiate a compromise and implement a solution satisfactory to the guest.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance coming to his/ her attention corrective action could be taken when appropriate.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards.
  • In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.

Special Skills Required:

  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation.
  • Basic knowledge of POS systems.
  • Basic English language writing skills necessary for completion of requisitions, balance sheets and vouchers.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity in hands in order to use a knife to make garnish, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, mix drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock.
  • Ability to read, speak and understand the English language in order to communicate with guests and other staff members.
  • Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
  • Ability to work stand and work in confined spaces for long periods of time.
  • Ability to operate beverage equipment: coffeemaker, iced tea machine, etc.

Education Required:

  • High School diploma preferred. Hospitality college degree preferred.
  • First Aid training preferred.
  • Knowledge of Food & Beverage POS systems preferred.

Experience Required:

  • Luxury hotel Food & Beverage experience preferred.
  • 2 years of previous In-Room Dining experience preferred.

Licenses or Certificates:

Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate.  CPR Certification and/or First Aid Training preferred.

Salary Range:

$19.90 - $24.88/hour, plus service charge

The Langham Chicago

The Langham, Chicago, opened its doors July 2013.  The 52-story building, situated on the plaza overlooking the River, was designed by famed Chicago architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.  Langham Chicago takes up 13 floors of the iconic building.  The ground floor reception area designed by Dirk Lohan of Lohan Anderson, was van der Rohe's grandson and the Lobby is a tribute to his grandfather's distinctive style showcasing period and contemporary influences.  Throughout the hotel, you will find many influences of Mies van der Rohe.
