Description
Primary function is to provide a working supervisor for the Engineering Department. Supervise the implementation of all property and equipment preventative maintenance and repairs, monitor life safety systems and utilities and corporate/franchise standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to protect assets, guests and employees
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Know all emergency procedures (fire, severe weather, bomb threats, guest accident/illness, etc).
- Interview, hire, performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate.
- Maintain a high standard of job performance for all hourly department employees
- Maintain high department productivity
- Implement and schedule property and equipment preventive maintenance programs in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and local, state and national codes and regulation.
- Prioritize service requests; schedule vendors/contractors and monitor the service performed to ensure customer satisfaction, safety and convenience.
- Test and examine the document, the life safety systems to ensure they are 100% operational at all times.
- Monitor utility and document consumption to determine the effectiveness of current systems.
- Review purchase requests and monitor expenses budget to ensure goals are met/exceeded.
- Assist in the administration of the department by preparing and maintaining schedules, logs, records and other documentations to ensure a smooth operation and minimize liabilities.
- Have the knowledge and skills to be able to efficiently and accurately repair HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, machinery, boiler, etc with a minimum need to call outside contractors.

- Utilize protective equipment, when applicable
- Promptly resolve substandard (unsafe) conditions to supervisor
- Promptly fill out an incident report for accidents, injuries, property damage or loss to supervisor
- Keep accurate communication flowing freely among all hotel departments
- Inform management promptly of any work-related problems or guest complaints
- Practice “CARE hospitality” and provide guest satisfaction
- Promote the hotel through goodwill, courtesy and a positive attitude
- Attend all scheduled training classes and meetings
- Train and supervise other employees as directed by SOP
- Continue to learn and grow in your position
- Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management
- Provide for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assume control of the Engineering Department in the absence of the Director of Engineering
- Provide effective training and assistance to all hourly department employees
- Work with outside contractors
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Efficiently operate small hand tools such as drills, grinders, saws, etc.
- Safely climb ladders and stairs
- Efficiently and safely operate light machinery such as key cutter, drill press, radial arm saw, etc.
- Understand and efficiently operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems
- Stand and or walk for long periods of time
- Efficiently handle test equipment, hand tools, keys, etc.
- Lift and carry heavy objects such as boxes, televisions, ladders, etc.
- Learn new tasks
- Train other department members
- Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdown
- Efficiently operate all building systems
- Must have a valid driver license
- Must be flexible enough to work any shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 4 year degree from an accredited university in Engineering or related major or 4 years experience as a Chief Engineer or a combination of both experience and education
