Job overview

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for assisting with the operation maintenance service and repair of equipment as assigned. He/she is also responsible for participating in the preventative maintenance program handling guest requests and other work orders as assigned. He/she is also responsible for performing the job in a safe and efficient manner and performing trade jobs such as carpentry painting plumbing etc. May require driving shuttle van when needed (property specific).

The ideal candidate will: 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Licensed in a trade preferred (plumbing electrical HVAC carpentry etc.).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for the applicable state (property specific).
  • Must have an acceptable MVR (Motor Vehicle Driving Record) (property specific)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the operation maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Change out light bulbs; perform preventative maintenance for guest rooms to include: vinyl repair touch up paint minor furniture repair tub caulking tile repairs etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance for ice machines refrigerators kitchen equipment laundry equipment HVAC guestrooms meeting rooms the swimming pool and hot tub.
  • Perform plumbing repair laundry equipment repair preventative maintenance on all exhaust fans and supply; monitor energy conservation; repair vacuum cleaners and any other small equipment upon request.
  • Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine the exact location and cause - determine emergency status and report to the Front Desk with findings.
  • Perform other tasks/jobs as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Job Knowledge, Skill And Ability:

  • Basic knowledge of skilled trade activities in plumbing, carpentry, electrical and mechanical work and painting.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of skilled trade tools (including both hand and electric tools).
  • Must have the visual ability to identify and match colors for painting color coded steam pipes and identifying color coded electrical wires.
  • Basic English language communication and mathematical skills in order to communicate with co-workers, fully comprehend job assignments and perform accurate, simple arithmetic functions.
  • Ability to move and work throughout the hotel for the duration of shift.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping and kneeling.
  • Ability to push and pull objects or materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, working at heights up to approximately 30 feet for extended periods of time, with the ability to extend arms, often times overhead.
  • The job is defined as both inside and outside in the elements, the worker may spend more than 50% of a work day either inside or out.
  • This individual must be able to work on and be able to stoop, kneel, crawl and climb on all types of surfaces.
  • Ability to work in small confined areas.
  • Work with high levels of noise and frequent interruptions.

Education, Experience & Licenses:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the functions of the job.
  • High school diploma required
  • 1 or more years of maintenance experience preferred
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license
