Job Summary

The Director of Sales is responsible for directing coordinating training and supervising the Sales and Catering Managers and the Sales Administrator in all sales-related activities including direct sales efforts follow-up and proper sales administration. He/she is also responsible for growing existing accounts and generating new business to ensure that rooms revenue and catering revenue meet or exceed budget in order to maximize revenue and profits and to improve the hotel's performance in the marketplace. Exempt associates are expected to work as much of each workday as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 6 years of progressive hotel sales experience; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and at least 4 years of hotel sales experience.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the applicable state.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must work well in stressful high pressure situations.
  • Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace including anticipating preventing identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information data etc. from disparate sources and consider adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
  • Must be effective at listening to understanding clarifying and resolving the concerns and issues raised by coworkers and guests.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data and basic arithmetic functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive friendly courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Aimbridge Hospitality standards as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel but which will include a mandatory daily ABR meeting.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming which include compliance with Aimbridge
  • Hospitality dress code and wearing a name tag when working (per brand standards).
  • Comply at all times with Aimbridge Hospitality standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Attend monthly all-employee meetings and any other functions required by management.
  • Attend weekly staff meeting and provide training on a rotational basis using steps to effective training according to Aimbridge Hospitality standards.
  • Supervise administer and ensure timely completion of all activities in the Sales Department.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel including Food and Beverage Front Office and Reservations.
  • Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team.
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies.
  • Comply with certification requirements as applicable for position to include: Food Handlers Alcohol Awareness CPR and First Aid
  • Comply with attainment of individual goals
  • Be responsible for developing Sales and Catering managers including sign-off on all competencies and assist in his/her placement.
  • Coordinate group and transient bookings to maximize profits.
  • Operate within established sales expense budget.
  • Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within your market and ensure the Sales Team is held accountable for those accounts within their territory.
  • Participate in required M.O.D. and Saturday office coverage as scheduled.
  • Supervise Catering Manager to ensure that the Catering Food & Beverage and Meeting Room rental budgets are met or exceeded.
  • Coordinate all non-group transient sales solicitations to maximize overall profits.
  • Initiate and follow up on leads.
  • Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program.
  • Implement a continuous sales training program for sales staff using steps to effective training according to hotel standards.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship and promote open lines of communication with managers employees and other departments.
  • Prepare required reports in a timely manner.
  • Conduct weekly sales meetings according to Aimbridge Hospitality standard.
  • Develop quarterly KRA's and ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Conduct daily ABR meeting with Sales staff and General Manager.
  • Recruit and conduct all Sales/Catering interviews and follow hiring procedures according to Aimbridge Hospitality S.O.P.'s.
  • Conduct all employee/manager performance appraisals according to Aimbridge Hospitality S.O.P.'s.
  • Motivate coach counsel and discipline all Sales Department personnel according to Aimbridge Hospitality S.O.P.'s.
  • Comply at all times with Aimbridge Hospitality standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Meet and greet onsite contacts.
  • Abide by Prime Selling Time (PST) and ensure compliance by Sales Team.
  • Ensure that employees are at all times attentive friendly helpful and courteous to all guests managers and other employees.
  • Act as directed on behalf of the General Manager in his/her absence.
  • Entertain clients.
  • Maintain strong visibility in local community organizations.
  • React to negative trends in market place by implementing blitzes or catering promotions.
  • Handle inquires as part of Inquiry Day Program.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the General Manager.

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful applicant must have a strong understanding of the group market; group sales negotiations & contracting, management of group goals, group pace, gap goals, and crossover management
  • Bilingual ability; need to have effective mastery of English & Spanish, including ability to negotiate and manage complex discussions in both languages
  • Background in a Full-Service Hotel in a Director of Sales role
  • Knowledge of Mexican markets for leisure and group travel, especially Monterrey and Mexico City.  Highly desired but not necessary
